Bunk Life
Your Home Among the Pines
At SJYC, bunk life is where the magic really starts. Nestled under tall ponderosa pines at 7,100 feet, our cabins are more than just places to sleep — they’re where friendships form, inside jokes are born, and memories stick for years to come.
With just 12 cabins organized in a ring, no one gets lost in the crowd. Whether it’s your first summer or you’re returning as a CIT, cabin life is all about connection, community, and a whole lot of laughter.
Cabin Life & Placement
Campers and CITs are grouped by age, with cabins carefully placed to support connection and balance.
We allow one bunk request per camper — just enough to keep things comfortable while making room for new friendships to grow. We don’t accept bunk requests for CIT Week.
Our cabins are cozy and close together (seriously — a 15-second walk!), making it easy to spend time with friends across camp.
Whether you're brushing your teeth together or playing cards during rest hour, your cabin crew becomes your summer family fast.
The Day-to-Day
Life in the cabin isn’t fancy — and that’s the point. It’s simple, shared, and full of fun:
Campers team up on light cabin chores (yes, we sweep! yes, it’s actually kind of fun!)
Everyone eats together in the dining hall and at outside tables in the Corral, with plenty of laughter and the occasional spontaneous song
Cabin rest time turns into card games, quiet reading, or blanket forts
Cabin groups tackle big camp events together — think Skit Night, Camp Olympics (with epic Connect 4 showand kayak races on the lake
By the end of the week, your bunkmates are your people. You’ve figured out how to work together, how to cheer each other on — and maybe even how to roll a sleeping bag.
What Parents Love
Small cabins = strong connections. Each cabin holds about 8 campers with 1–2 trained counselors leading the group.
Safe & supervised. We all live in close proximity to each other, helping to ensure safety and close supervision.
Intentional structure. Everything about our cabin setup is built to help campers and CITs feel known, supported, and part of our camp community.
